 oil painting "Bird Series"

My oil paintings capture a moment in time or a fond memory that will surely bring a smile to your face.  Photographing birds to place into my paintings is where all the fun begins.  The ideas then flow and I begin to buld a series of  compositions from which to paint.  Carefully planning the placement of birds, books or flowers that will reveal their own special meaning to the viewer is important.  Once I have the perfect arrangement I can begin to tell the story on canvas.  When people look at one of my paintings they are often moved by the fine detail and the beauty in nature.  They feel a sense  of attachment to the piece because of the emotion it evokes.

I have always been influenced by the drawings of the Old Masters, such as Michelangelo and Raphael, and the beauty of an icon with it's rich gold leaf, as well as the Illuminated Manuscrips.  I sometimes combine this "old world" style with a more contemporary subject matter in my "Travel Journal" series of paintings.   I desire to create something of beauty to uplift the human spirit.
